STEM Advocate - Researcher - Music Enthusiast

Mac Libby

I find myself at the start of writing this post in a position I rarely find myself - at a loss for words. How does one describe themselves in the stone that is an internet blog in a way that is meaningful, engaging, and - most hopefully - lacking pretension? Here's my best go at it:

First and foremost, I am a passionate advocate for all things STEM. From a young age, I was fascinated by how things worked, and I constantly sought out opportunities to tinker with machines, electronics, and other gadgets. This curiosity led me to pursue degrees in engineering and physics at the University of Southern Maine, which provided me with solid foundations in math, physics, engineering practices, programming, among other things.

Additionally, coupling this curiosity with a love for the composition and performance of music, made my now business partner - Evan - and I natural cohorts, liable to discuss quite literally any idea one has without the other being left in the dust.

Throughout and beyond the completion of my degrees, I worked - and continue to do so - in several industries of technology - regarding data entry automation, PLC programming, contract engineering, and data engineering - gaining valuable experience in software development, project management, and team leadership. During this time, I also developed a keen interest in entrepreneurship and started exploring ways to combine my technical skills with my business acumen. It was through this process that Evan and I finally realized that our endeavors were, in essence, businessable (read as best packaged into the endeavors of a formal business). We shared a common vision of using technology to solve complex problems and make a positive impact on the world. We both saw the potential for leveraging our expertise in STEM to create innovative solutions that could transform industries and improve people's lives.

Together, we founded Hillcrest Research and Development LLC (HCRD), upon a common vision:

At HCRD, we believe that technology is a tool for empowerment of both the individual and society at large, and we strive to create solutions that are accessible, user-friendly, and impactful. We also believe that innovation is a collaborative process, and we work closely with our clients, partners, and stakeholders to co-create solutions that meet their unique needs.

Furthermore, we are committed to responsible and sustainable business practices, and we take a holistic approach to our work that considers the social, environmental, and ethical implications of our solutions. We believe that business can be a force for good, and we are passionate about using our skills and expertise to make a positive impact on the world.

My ultimate goal for HCRD is to create a place that takes in any and all passionate individuals and amplifies the machinations of their minds into the most useful version of their visions, in pursuit of both providing an environment where the individual can fulfill their own vision of success, as well as providing the greatest benefit to our communities possible.
